Nature
and Rural Walks
Walks of great immersion in natural and rural spaces, accessible to
all types of walkers. Aimed at families with children or groups with
less hiking experience.
ON THE ROADS OF SÃO FILIPE
Setúbal, 8km, 3 hours, Easy
Neighborhoods of fishermen and workers, an old Roman road that awakens
walkers to other times, the rural world and the countryside next to
the city. Around the high peaks, the silvery blue of the River Sado
appears, where the old mills stand watchful.
IN THE WIND OF THE MILLS
Palmela, 10Km, 3 hours, Easy
People from the Neolithic, Roman, Muslim periods passed
through here until the present day, as witnessed by the ruins of many
settlements on the top of the Serra do Louro where the much older coral
banks and fossilized oysters, traces of other geological conditions,
can be seen.
ON THE TRACK OF DINOSAURS
Cabo Espichel, 4Km, 3 hours, Easy
Cabo Espichel is the place where kings, princes and
nobles "gathered" with pilgrims from all over the region and
we discovered that the "mule footprints" are the well-defined
tracks of dinosaurs that walked through lakes of serene waters a few
hundred million years ago of years.
MITRENA REVISITED
Sado Estuary, 6km, 2 hours, Easy
This is a paradise lost Here, fauna reigns supreme,
with countless waterfowl, amphibians and fish standing out. The old
salt marshes have given way to fish farms and here and there the remains
of nocturnal animals and, who knows, the fortuitous sight of an elusive
otter.
SHEPHERD'S TRAIL
Serra São Luís, 9Km, 3 hours, Easy
From here you can see the Arrábida mountains, the fertile valleys,
the city in the background on routes that are worth taking, seeing such
diverse landscapes and deep riches from a distant past, remembered in
the prehistoric village of Pedrão.
IN THE ENCHANTED FOREST
Alambre Valley, 8km, 3 hours, Easy
Here we have one of the last vestiges of Mediterranean flora, where
we find oaks and cork oaks, olive trees and wild olive trees, maritime
and umbrella pines. It is said that the name Alambre derives from the
Arabic word "Al Ambar", ancestral traces of the collection
of plant sap on a large scale.
IN LAND OF ALCUBE
Aldeia Grande, 9km, 4 hours, Easy
From the Arabic word "al Kubba", which means important tomb,
the designation of a majestic valley, nestled between the S.Francisco
and S.Luís Mountains, has come down to our days. Today it is
a privileged place for the production of Moscatel de Setúbal
and Queijo de Azeitão.
AZEITÃO FARMLAND
Azeitão, 12Km, 4 hours, Moderate
The farms and villages form a unique mosaic of human occupation in the
middle of the Arrábida Natural Park. The mountain is the backdrop
for those who walk. In these places, in the Roman period, there was
a port, where barges loaded the products to go to Equabona.
HILLS OF AL-RASCAH
Rasca Valley, 9Km, 3 hours, Moderate
An old farmhouse with a manor-like appearance, reminiscent of African
images for the large avenues of palm trees and the luxuriant vegetation
in the low and humid areas with the challenge of slowly climbing the
hill of the rasca, a designation that means "al-rascah" -
the apple tree.
LAND OF CHEESE, BREAD AND WINE
Quinta Anjo, 10Km, 4h, Moderate
In Serra do Louro we find a unique archaeological wealth from the Muslim,
Roman and Iron Age periods, as well as the strange engravings on the
rocks and the important Chalcolithic Collective Graves, over 4000 years
old, where everything happened.
ROMAN ROADS
Setúbal, 12Km, 5 hours, Moderate
The wonderful landscape of Setúbal, the River Sado and the Serra
da Arrábida leads us to the full route of the Roman road of Viso,
one of the longest and best preserved in Portugal, which connected the
southern access of Lusitania to Olisipo.
ROYAL LANDS - Valey of Rasca, 14Km, 5 hours,
Moderate
A chapel lost in the countryside, perhaps once an Arab mosque or perhaps
a "Kubba", which means mausoleum and hence the toponym Alcube.
Visit the old artisanal vegetable gardens, feel Arrábida and
appreciate the rich and dense Mediterranean vegetation of the Rasca
Valley.
ARRÁBIDA VALEYS - Valey of Picheleiros,
12Km, 5 hours, Moderate
From Moinho do Cuco it is clear that the horizon may have no limits
and we have the feeling of having Arrábida in our hand. From
here we can see and understand a little of the geological history of
the Arrábida Region. In the background Lisbon and the whole Peninsula
of Setúbal at our feet.
